New Covers on the Owen Family Saga

From the time I re-ordered the books in The Owen Family Saga, and then added the Origin Story, That Tender Light, as a novella, I’ve wanted to change the covers on several of the novels, especially the three books published first.

I didn’t want to change the cover of Gone for a Soldier. It’s pretty special as it is, but it had been fifteen years since the first novel was published, and two of them didn’t even have a print edition published by my company, WestWard Books.

Now look:

New Covers on The Owen Family Saga

These changes have been a multi-year, complex process that began when I replaced the cover of Spinster’s Folly. Since then, I’ve been haunting stock photo sites and designers’ pre-made cover pages in an attempt to keep expenses down. A parallel project was to re-format the layout for the interiors of the novels to reflect not only cover credits for the new covers I found, but to make the novels more uniform. I’m almost finished with that project.

Finally, I found the last cover I wanted, but one of the images needed an enhancement to bring the subjects into more prominence. When I was told that wasn’t possible due to the original image file, I elected to find another image that would suit so the designer could change it out. Mind you, this cost me additional money, but I gladly paid it, and the resulting cover is excellent.

I still need to make a few little adjustments, but for all intents and purposes, my huge task is complete, and I can get back to writing.

Now in Print with a New Cover!

This has been a year of updates and new looks.  I’ve been putting new covers on several of my works, and in some cases, publishing print editions for works that warranted that diversity. Today I’ll tell you about one of these books.

Rapid Recipes for Writers . . . And Other Busy People

On the last day of July, I purchased a cover I’d admired for some time from Tell~Tale Book Covers. Before that day, I never could figure out a story for the cover, though, so it remained at the site in the pre-made covers area. Suddenly, it occurred to me that I could put it on an evergreen recipe book that I first published back in the 1980s, Rapid Recipes for Writers . . . And Other Busy People. That’s why I bought the cover.

The premise of the recipe collection is that the 31 recipes included provide one new quick recipe a month to place before the household at mealtime. “Your family will never suspect that you’ve been slaving over a hot keyboard all day long if you spring these quick and yummy dishes on them.” That accounts for the smiling woman on the cover. She has a secret!

I also published this quirky recipe book in print, for those who like to hold it when they cook. It debuted on September 1. I hope you’ll take a look at the ebook or the book in print. The paperback will make an excellent gift for the Holidays.

Fresh Books all over the Place!

I’ve been away from my website for a while, dealing with medical issues and website glitches, too. Now I’m back. Sorta. I’m still working on a knee problem.

But for the last two weeks, I’ve been laboring over books of a new sort for me: Journals, and Writing Logs for Indie Authors.

Why?

Because with slumping book sales, I needed to try something new that I could accomplish in a short amount of time, but that would be quality products of benefit to readers, writers, and journalers.

I created six 6-by-9-inch, brightly-colored, 110 page lined journals with glossy covers. These blank books have many uses, and make great gifts for loved ones, teachers, and special friends.

I also mentioned Writing Logs for Indie Authors. I created two logs, one of which offers both a white and tan cover. That is the Log for keeping track of uploads and updates for Print on Demand books. The other book is for tracking information during the creation of ebook or print covers. This log can be useful to book cover designers as well as authors who do their own covers.

Just click on an image to go find the Journal or Log you want to buy.
