I recently took an epic road trip to a workshop on the business of writing fiction, and on the way, I saw this intriguing mountain outside Weed, California.
Here’s another, closer view of what I now know is Black Butte:
I’ve seen this before, too, but have never known the name. I think it’s called Black Butte. A small relative of Mt Shasta.
From Wikipedia: “Black Butte is a cluster of overlapping dacite lava domes in a butte,[2] a parasitic satellite cone of Mount Shasta.[5] It is located directly adjacent to Interstate 5 at milepost 742 between the city of Mount Shasta and Weed, California. The highway crosses a 3,912 ft (1,192 m) pass, Black Butte Summit, at the western base of the lava domes. The lava domes were extruded at the foot of the cone of Shastina following the period of its major eruptions about 9,000–10,000 years ago.[2]”

Well? Don’t leave me in suspenders! Is it Mt. Shasta? ❤️
I don’t know the name, Pam, but it’s not Mt. Shasta. It was south of Weed, CA.

Very cool!
Yes! Black Butte! I thought at the time how appropriate the name was for the mountain.
Dang, I wish I was going with you! Road trips with wonderful friends are amazing!
I’m already back home, Betsy. I would have enjoyed traveling with you, but it didn’t happen this time.
